Galt volunteers Charlie Christensen, left, as P.L. Naismith, Vice-Chairman of the Board, and Duane Petluk as Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier, during this year's 1910 Galt Hospital opening reenactment. Rumour has it that during the original event, the key to the building was temporarily misplaced - rather embarrassing, as the Prime Minister was to open the doors! |

1800+ participated in September Centennial celebrations
Galt Babies from near and far joined local residents for a day of festivities celebrating 100 years of the Galt Hospital building on Sunday, SEP 26. Among the onlookers during the reenactment was Ray Waddle who located the key at the end of the month-long "Find the Key" contest. Thanks to Exhibition Park for running the Streetcar Shuttle all day from Galt Gardens, to the Friends of the Galt for donating the gift bags to the first 400 Galt Babies and for sponsoring the free admission, and to the Galt School of Nursing Alumnae Association for Birthday Cake for 1000 and the great tours of the building! You can check out the day's photos in our Facebook photo album. The exhibit Galt Hospital - 100 Years is on until December 5. |

Contribute to Greatest Years exhibit
We are preparing for “The Greatest Years You Never Knew” [APR 30 to SEP 11, 2011], focusing on the years 1906-1913 in Lethbridge – a topic selected in 2008 as one of the favourites in public surveys – and is looking for additional public input by gathering people’s memories of the historic buildings constructed during that time period.
Belinda Crowson, who usually wears the Museum Educator hat, is the guest curator for the exhibit. “One of the themes is Buildings and Development and the legacy of the buildings built between 1906 and 1913 and those which still exist today. But we don’t just want to provide the history of the building. We want to know about the LIFE of the building. Your memories of the buildings. Which buildings are your favourites and why. We want stories, remembrances, ideas, questions, thoughts of the buildings up to and including those that happened today. So no matter how long you’ve lived in Lethbridge, your stories are important!”
These statements will help Belinda in creating labels for the buildings, which will each begin with a quote or statement. A list of building names for you to comment on can be picked up at the Galt Museum, and is also available online at the exhibit website - click on the exhibit image below. ?xml:namespace> |
